Every project, one calendar
Remodel timelines in Fort Worth, by project
Bathrooms and kitchens take weeks, up to about three months. Additions, garage apartments, pools and whole-home remodels take months. A custom home takes the longest: 11 to 18 months.

Where your project lands inside its range depends on how much moves. You get a real schedule up front, not a hopeful one.
What moves your date
Why one remodel takes longer than another
The kind of project sets the range. What moves inside your house decides where you land in it.
-
Walls and plumbing that move
A kitchen that keeps its footprint goes faster than one where the plumbing and walls are relocated. A primary bath works the same way: a refresh is quicker than a room we reconfigure.
-
What’s behind the walls
Some of a house only shows once the walls are open. On a whole-home remodel, how much of the structure and how many of the systems move decides where your schedule lands.
-
Your selections
Every finish you choose has to be ordered before it can be installed, and some take longer to arrive than others. Choosing early means your finishes get ordered sooner, so they’re on site when the crew needs them.
-
Whether you live in it
Living in the house while we work means doing the job in phases, with protection for the rooms you still use. That takes longer than the same work in an empty house.
Permits
How long the City of Fort Worth takes to review a permit
The City of Fort Worth’s standard for a residential permit is 7 business days to first review comments, once your application is complete.
- The review standard
-
“Upon submittal of a complete permit application, the following review standards apply for first review comments.”
“Residential: 7 business days”
- When you need a permit
- “Permits are required for new construction, as well as work that changes, moves or repairs walls, floors, ceiling, windows, doors, electrical, mechanical or plumbing.”
First review comments aren’t the permit itself. Comments can mean revisions, and a revised set goes back for another look. We draw the plans, take them to the City, and build the review into your schedule from the start.

Floor plans
How long floor plans take
A full set of floor plans takes 8 weeks to 6 months with us.
A smaller project is two or three design meetings, and a larger one is six or more. The more decisions you make on paper, the fewer get made once the walls are open. See how we draw floor plans

Does a permit add time to a remodel in Fort Worth?
It can. The City’s standard is 7 business days to first review comments on a complete residential application, and comments can mean revisions. Not every remodel needs a permit: the City requires one for work that changes, moves or repairs walls, floors, ceilings, windows, doors, electrical, mechanical or plumbing. When yours needs one, we build the review into your schedule from the start.
Is 7 business days how long it takes to get a permit?
No. It’s the City of Fort Worth’s standard for first review comments, and the clock starts once the application is complete. If the comments ask for revisions, the revised set goes back for another look before the permit is issued.
Why does a garage apartment take longer than a home addition?
A garage apartment is a separate structure, with its own foundation, its own utility runs and its own permit, and none of that borrows from the house the way an addition does. That’s why a garage apartment takes 6 to 9 months with us, and an addition 3 to 9 months.
Can we stay in the house while you remodel?
Often, yes, and it changes the schedule. Living in the house means doing the work in phases, with protection for the rooms you still use, so it takes longer than the same work in an empty house. Whether to stay or move out, project by project
When do I get a schedule for my project?
Up front, before work starts. Your walk-through gives you an honest estimate, the design gives you a detailed budget, and then you get a real schedule, not a hopeful one.
Your timeline
Know your timeline before work starts
A remodel without a real schedule leaves you guessing when you’ll get your kitchen, your bath or your house back. Walk the house with a designer and a builder, and start with an honest estimate.
